Adopt an Instrument

• Submit an Application On that application will be questions about what music means to you (or the person you're submitting for) and what challenges prevent you from purchasing an instrument and/or lessons. We will accept as many applicants as we can depending on available instruments and funding.

• Sign an Instrument Loan Agreement: Before taking an instrument home, you'll sign a simple Instrument Loan Agreement. It protects both you and The Jam Night Project by making sure everyone understands how the loan works. 

• Take Care of Your Instrument: While you have your instrument, we ask that you treat it with great care. Keep it in a safe, dry place, carry it in its case when it leaves your house, and do your absolute best to keep it from being dropped, broken, or scratched. We understand that accidents happen. We're not expecting perfection—just that you treat the instrument with the same care you would if it were your own.

• Practice and Grow: Go to lessons, practice at home, and improve your playing.

• Play at a TJNP show every month (optional): Sign up for a show like Hanover Jam Night, practice your song(s), and come ready to play. The folks at TJNP will work with you and your instructor to choose the right songs and find people to play with you. TJNP shows are full of wonderful people who are positive and supportive. We hope the experience inspires a lifelong love of making music! If playing at a TJNP show isn't for you, that's OK too. We understand that it can be scary to get on a stage and play in front of others. We'd love to see you do it but if you choose not to or are unable for some reason, that is totally OK and not a requirement.

• Permanently Adopt or Return the Instrument: After a year, it's time to decide if your home will be the permanent home for your instrument! You can choose to return it and give someone else a turn OR if you would like to keep it forever, we can discuss options. We can't guarantee that we will be able to give you the instrument at no cost but we will work with you to secure funding, find a similar instrument, or some other solution. The Jam Night Project is all about supporting new musicians so we will do whatever we can to help you out. However, until another arrangement is made in writing, all instruments remain the property of The Jam Night Project.

• You Can Stop at Any Time: Playing an instrument isn't for everyone and sometimes people find out it's not as fun as they thought it would be. If after a week, or a month, or a few months you're no longer interested in playing that instrument - no problem whatsoever. Simply return the instrument and you're good to go. If you move or your contact information changes while you're participating, just let us know so we can stay in touch.
